fibromuscular dysplasia support, education & advocacy
Fibromuscular dysplasia (FMD) is a complex disease that is most commonly seen in women, with systemic presentation that may include stenosis, aneurysm or dissection most commonly in the renal and carotid arteries, migraine-like headaches, dizziness, and tinnitus or a swooshing sound in the ears. Low bone density, joint laxity and degenerative disease in the spine also have been linked to the disease. FMD is considered a rare disease; however, it is also believed to be underdiagnosed.

FMD Chat Announces New NeedyMeds Prescription Drug Discount Card

In order to help those affected by fibromuscular dysplasia and their families, FMD Chat has partnered with NeedyMeds to provide a drug discount card that provides a saving of up to 80 percent on many medicines. NeedyMeds is a 501(c)(3) non-profit information resource devoted to helping people in need find assistance programs to help them afford their medications and costs related to health care.

The NeedyMeds card is free and available to anyone. The card may be used by those without insurance and by those who decide not to use their insurance—for example if a drug is not covered under their plan, the copay or deductible is high, the cap has been reached, or if they are in the donut hole. The card may not be used in combination with insurance.

The NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card is accepted at more than 62,000 pharmacies, including major chains such as Walmart, CVS, Walgreens, Rite Aid and at regional chains and local stores. There are no income, insurance or residency requirements, and no fees or registration process needed to use the card. One card can be shared with friends and family members, or they can print their own. The card can also be used for over-the-counter medications and medical supplies if written on a prescription blank, and pet prescription medicines purchased at a pharmacy.

Users should simply present the card to the pharmacist, along with your prescription, at any of the participating pharmacies. If a pharmacist is not familiar with the drug discount card, he or she can call Argus Health Systems at 866.921.7284. The phone number is found on back of the card.

FMD Chat's personalized NeedyMeds Drug Discount Card may be downloaded and immediately put to use, and it remain available for download via FMD Chat's Readings & Resources page. For general information about NeedyMeds and the Drug Discount Card program, visit needymeds.org/drugcard/questions.htm.
