Some of our doctors announce one verdict
While others argue another
We sift through, sick and overwhelmed
No wonder we lean on each other
Like children on playgrounds, we gather
Dumping toys on the sidewalk to share
Clinging for reassurance,
Trading scans and reports to compare
Even laughing, when we dare
Arteries beaded like strings of red pearls,
Or ruptured, or thin, or dissected
Scatter among us, from head to toe
We never know where this disease may go
And just like kids with no say so,
We were busy at play when affected
I’ve stared at this blank screen for hours now
With these friends to consider
Straining to give encouragement
…Failing to deliver
A few of us got bad news today
But this is the authenticity
Of this disease we share here
Of this monstrosity
Sometimes the journey feels more like a crash
Leaving no profound words to speak
Retreating to face our demons,
We feel human, and angry, and weak
Until we hear the distant chatter
Of our friends as they all gather
Comparing again, new developments
Good and bad poured out together
Through it all we have each other
We are more profound than words I lack
When I couldn’t give, they gave more back
Almost forgetting a disease that brought us here
Forging ahead with one another
This journey is rich that we travel together
